FC Asian Pacific Islander Faculty & Staff Association (APIA) Scholarship Award
Each year, the Asian Pacific Islander Faculty & Staff Association awards a $300 scholarship to an outstanding student at each North Orange County Community College District campus. This year’s Fullerton College recipient is Jessica Susanto.
While earning a place on the President’s Honor List, Jessica still found time to contribute to campus governance through her position as the Vice-Chair of Finance Committee for Associated Students. Jessica also worked as an embedded tutor for English classes where her leadership and skill led students in one of the classes to unanimously name her support as a key factor in their learning. Jessica also earned a spot as a 2021 Student of Distinction in the Academic Achievement category.
Some of Jessica’s recent activities off-campus include working as a marketing and fundraising volunteer at the WISEPlace Women’s Shelter which is a non-profit organization providing women with safe shelter, counseling and mental health services, case management and addiction recovery, as well as employment assistance. While organizing social activities and entertainment for the women at the shelter, Jessica also helped coordinate some online fundraisers which raised $15,000. In addition, Jessica mentored local high school students for SLED, a non-profit student led organization, served as co-Vice President of IGNITE: Women in Politics, and interned in the office of Council Member Ahmed Zahra for the City of Fullerton where reports on homelessness that she wrote helped lead to a “Safe Parking Initiative”.
Jessica’s long-term goal is to become a lawyer specializing in women’s rights advocacy and entertainment law. She is interested in cases involving sexual harassment, workplace discrimination, and domestic abuse.
The Asian Pacific Islander Faculty & Staff Association is pleased to present Jessica Susanto with the 2021-2022 APIA Scholarship.
