Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Faculty & Staff Association
The Asian Pacific Islander Faculty & Staff Association began in fall 2010 as a Fullerton College association. Over the years, APIA held book discussions on titles such as “Please Look After Mom” by Kyung-Sook Shin, sponsored speakers, participated in Fullerton College’s WorldFest, and organized Asian Forums. Members also attended cultural events such the musical, “Allegiance”, in San Diego. APIA members could be seen regularly meeting at local restaurants to plan events and just converse. A highlight of each year was the awarding of the APIA scholarship to a deserving student. During these years, our collaborators included the Cadena Cultural Center, the NOCCCD Office of Diversity and Compliance, and the FC Ethnic Studies department.
In 2017, APIA expanded to include Cypress College members and the first Cypress College APIA scholarship was awarded. The following year, North Orange Continuing Education joined the association awarding their first scholarship for the 2018-2019 academic year.
In fall 2023, APIA changed it’s name to Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Association (APIDA) Faculty Staff Association.
